One of the cornerstones of current privacy regulations and laws is the rights they grant to data subjects over their data. 

Specifically, through these laws and regulations, data subjects can now require an organization that has collected and is processing or sharing their data (known as a data controller under the GDPR) to hand over, modify or delete the data within a stipulated time period or stop processing their personal data using a simple request. If the organization fails to do this, it could face penalties and enforcement actions brought about by the regulatory authority or the data subject.
